Raw banana erissery
Raw Banana - yam Erisery / Chena - Kaya erissery
This is a traditional Kerala dish. It's a flavourful dish made with two main ingredients, yam and raw banana.
INGREDIENTS:-
* Raw banana ( nethrakkaya) - 1
* Yam - small piece
* Toor dal - 1/4 cup
* Grated Coconut - 1/2 + 1/2 cup
* Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
* Shallots - 3
* Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
* Chilli powder - 1 1/2 tsp
* Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
* Coconut oil - 2 tbs
* Mustard seeds - 1 tbs
* Dry red chilli - 3
* Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
* Salt - to taste
METHOD :-
* To a pressure cooker add Toor dal, raw banana pieces, yam pieces, turmeric powder.
* Add enough water for cooking this.
* Cook until it's completely cooked.
* When the pressure is completely gone, open the lid.
* Just slightly mash this with a masher.
* To this add chilli powder, pepper powder and salt.
* Add 1/2 cup grated Coconut along with cumin seeds and shallots to a mixer jar. Coarsely grind this without adding water.
* Add this to the mashed banana and yam mix.
* Mix well.
* Turn on the flame. When it starts bubbling turn off the flame. Keep aside.
* To an another pan heat oil. When the oil becomes hot add mustard seed, dry chilli.
* At this stage add the remaining 1/2 cup grated coconut.
* Fry until the coconut becomes golden brown color. Then add curry leaves. Mix it.
* Turn off the flame.
* Add this fried coconut to the already prepared mashed banana-yam mix. Mix well.
* Tasty raw banana-yam errisery is ready to serve.
