Homemade Cough Syrup with Honey, Ginger & Turmeric
Ingredients:
* Honey – ½ cup (preferably raw or organic)
* Fresh ginger root – enough to yield 2 tablespoons of ginger juice
* Ground turmeric – ½ teaspoon (or 1 tsp fresh turmeric juice if available)
* Black pepper – a pinch (helps boost turmeric absorption)
Step-by-Step Recipe:
1. Extract Ginger Juice
Grate about 2 inches of fresh ginger root.
Place the grated ginger in a clean cloth or sieve and squeeze to extract the juice.
You’ll need about 2 tablespoons of ginger juice.
2. Combine Ingredients
In a small bowl or jar, mix:
½ cup of honey
2 tablespoons of fresh ginger juice
½ teaspoon of ground turmeric (or 1 tsp fresh turmeric juice)
A pinch of black pepper
3. Stir Thoroughly
Mix everything well until fully blended.
You can slightly warm the mixture (not boil!) to help dissolve the turmeric, especially if it clumps.
4. Store
Pour the syrup into a clean, airtight glass jar or bottle.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 1–2 weeks.
Dosage Instructions:
Adults: Take 1 tablespoon 2–3 times a day.
Children (over 1 year): Take 1 teaspoon 2–3 times a day.
(Do NOT give honey to children under 1 year due to the risk of botulism.)
Tips:
Shake or stir the syrup before each use, as turmeric may settle.
If using fresh turmeric root, follow the same process as ginger to extract juice.
For a soothing drink, stir 1 tablespoon of the syrup into warm water or herbal tea.
