Kunji pathal / Kakka orotti / Beef pidi

Kunji Pathal, also known as Kakka Orotti, is a traditional dish from the Malabar region of Kerala, India. Made primarily from rice flour, the dough is shaped into small, flattened discs—resembling tiny rotis or coins—and then cooked either by steaming or simmering in a spiced coconut-based gravy. This dish is often mixed with flavorful meat curries, such as beef or chicken, and is cherished for its soft texture and ability to soak up rich flavors. Kunji Pathal is not only a comfort food in many Muslim households during Ramadan and special occasions but also a symbol of the region’s culinary heritage, reflecting the blend of simplicity and depth found in Malabari cuisine.
