Pappadam Chammanthi is a flavorful and tangy dip that’s a popular side dish in Kerala, India. It’s made by crushing crispy pappadam (fried lentil crackers) and mixing them with a combination of fresh ingredients like coconut, dried red chilies, shallots, curry leaves, and sometimes a bit of tamarind for an extra zing. The crushed pappadam adds a crunchy texture to the creamy coconut base, while the spices and herbs provide a burst of flavor. Often served alongside rice, curries, or even as a snack, pappadam chammanthi is a perfect blend of crunchy, spicy, and tangy elements, making it a unique and beloved dish in Kerala's cuisine.
INGREDIENTS :-
* Pappadam - 3
* Dried red chilli - 4
* Shallots - 5-6
* Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
* Tamarind - half gooseberry sized
* Salt - to taste
* Curry leaves - 1 sprig
* Oil - for frying
METHOD :-
* Heat oil for deep frying.
* Cut pappadam into 4 pieces. Deep fry the pappadam pieces. Set aside.
* To the same oil add dried red chilli.
* Roast it for 1 minute and remove from the oil.
* To a mixer jar first add roasted red chilli, grated coconut, salt, curry leaves and tamarind.
* Grind it without adding water.
* Then add shallots to this. Coarsely grind it.
* After that add fried pappadam.
* Grind it in pulse mode.
* Transfer to the serving bowl.
* Tasty and easy pappadam Chammanthi is ready.
