Pidi and chicken curry

   Pidi and chicken curry is a popular Kerala dish especially among Christian Families. Pidi is actually small steamed balls in a thick sauce, made with rice flour and other ingredients. Served along with chicken curry.  

INGREDIENTS :-

For making pidi :-

* Rice flour - 1 cup

* Grateful coconut - 1/2 cup 

* Garlic - 3 cloves

* Shallots - 2

* Cumin seed - 1 tsp

* Water - 3 cup

* Second Coconut milk - 1 1/2 cup

* Salt - to taste

For Chicken curry :-

* Chicken - 1 kg

* Onion - 2 

* Ginger-Garlic paste - 1 1/2 tbs

* Tomato - 1

* Green chilli - 2

* Coriander powder - 2 tbs

* Chilli powder - 1 1/2 tbs

* Pepper - 1 tbs

* Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

* Garam masala - 1 1/2 tsp

* Oil - 5 tbs

* Curry leaves - 2 sprig

* Coriander leaves - 1 handful

* Salt - to taste

METHOD :-

* Mix rice flour and grated coconut 

* Dry roast it for 3-4 minutes. Keep aside. 

* Crush the shallots, garlic along with cumin seed. 

* Boil half litre water along with salt and already  crushed shallot, garlic, cumin seed mix. 

* Let it boil vigorously. 

* Add enough ( not full water)  boiling water to the rice flour. Save the remaining water. 

* Mix it with a ladle, when it becomes warm enough to knead with your hands. Then knead it with your hands until it becomes soft non sticky dough. 

* Then make small balls out of this. 

* Take 4 or 5 balls from this crush this and mix with 4 tbs water. Keep aside. 

* Strain the remaining water. 

* Again boil this water along coconut milk. Add salt if required. 

* When it starts bubbling. 

* Then add the prepared rice balls to this boiling water. Turn the flame high. 

*When it starts bubbling. Gently stir it to prevent the balls from sticking. 

* Let it cook for 10 minutes. 

* At this time add the already prepared crushed rice balls paste or water. 

* Let it boil. 

* Once it done, Turn off the flame. 

* Pidi is ready. 

Making chicken curry :-

* Clean the chicken pieces. 

* Add Coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder and salt. 

* Mix it. 

* Let it marinate for half an hour. 

* After that heat a khadai, add oil. 

* Then add sliced onion. Saute it till it becomes light golden brown color. 

* To this add ginger garlic paste and chopped green chilli. 

* Saute  it till the raw taste is completely gone. 

* Once it done add chopped tomato and curry leaves. Saute it till the oil seperate. 

* Then add marinated chicken pieces. 

* Turn the flame high. Mix it well for 5 minutes. 

* To this add hot water enough water for cooking. 

* Let it boil. Close the lid. 

* Then turn the flame to medium. Cook it for 20 minutes or until it becomes cooked well. 

* Open the lid, add garam masala powder and coriander leaves. 

* Mix it. 

* Turn off the flame. 

* Tasty chicken curry is ready. 

* Serve along with pidi.
